Global spACEs: Liberia and Ireland Unite for Transformative Global Citizenship Education Programme for Adult & Community Educators
April 30, 2025 – An ambitious and transformative two-year Global Citizenship Education (GCE) programme has launched, bringing together Adult and Community Education (ACE) practitioners from Liberia and Ireland in a pioneering cross-cultural initiative.
Jointly led by Development Education Network – Liberia (DEN-L) and Saolta, this innovative training programme is designed to empower educators with the skills, knowledge, and methodologies needed to embed high-quality Global Citizenship Education into adult and community learning contexts.
The programme offers a unique platform for international collaboration, enabling participants to engage in immersive learning experiences, interactive workshops, and peer-led initiatives. These elements aim to deepen educators’ understanding of GCE principles while fostering critical thinking, participatory learning, and approaches to tackling global justice issues.
“At the heart of this initiative is the belief that adult and community educators are powerful catalysts for social change,” said Nick Doran, Saolta Programme Manager. “By building the capacity of educators across Liberia and Ireland, we are investing in communities and promoting active global citizenship.”
By facilitating meaningful knowledge exchange and best practice sharing between two diverse global contexts, the programme enhances the global education landscape and empowers individuals to drive positive change in their communities.
This initiative supports a broader vision of a just, inclusive, and sustainable world, equipping ACE practitioners and educators to inspire learners to think globally, act ethically, and engage actively in their societies.ie
